International passenger trains connecting China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is vital to facilitate cross-border travels, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday.
Guo was responding to a media inquiry about the train services linking China's northeastern border city of Dandong with the DPRK capital Pyongyang which began operation in both directions on Thursday.
"China and the DPRK are friendly neighbors, and maintaining the regular operation of the passenger train services is of great significance to facilitating personnel exchanges between the two sides. China supports the competent authorities of both sides in strengthening communication to create more convenient conditions for bilateral people-to-people exchanges," said the spokesman.
