Maintaining security and stability of the Strait of Hormuz and its adjacent waters aligns with the common interests of the international community, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a press conference held in Beijing on Thursday.

Guo made the statement in response to a media query about the attacks on vessels near the Strait of Hormuz since the escalation of tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States.

"The Strait of Hormuz and its adjacent waters are a crucial international trade route for goods and energy. Maintaining security and stability in this region serves the common interests of the international community. China urges all parties involved to immediately cease military operations to prevent further escalation of tensions and to avoid regional instability that could have greater impacts on global economic development," said Guo.
