Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday that the nation's primary priority was to end all regional warfare while remaining committed to sincere diplomatic engagement.
"All of Iran's demands are reasonable and responsible proposals. They align not only with Iran's national interests but also with the welfare, stability, and security of the entire region and the world. Regrettably, the United States still insists on one-sided views and unreasonable demands, which are largely based on mindsets influenced by Israel," Baghaei said at a weekly news conference in Tehran.
Baghaei said that Iran has demonstrated its resolve to safeguard its national interests and rights, adding that the country is engaging in the diplomatic process with rationality and sincerity. He said the U.S. must also prove it has a serious attitude toward the negotiations.
Baghaei said that Iran will not accept any external interference that undermines trust and security in the region. He argued that regional security must be guaranteed by the nations within the region, adding that the presence of foreign troops only exacerbates instability and provides no benefit to any country in the region.
The spokesman emphasized that the immediate priority is to cease all forms of warfare, including the conflict between Lebanon and Israel. He also highlighted the necessity of ensuring the safety of navigation in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, calling for a halt to illegal U.S. actions against Iranian merchant vessels.
Baghaei stressed that Iran is well aware of how to safeguard its security, asserting that threats from the U.S. and Israel will not cause it to waver in protecting its rights and national interests.
Iran, the United States, and Israel agreed to a ceasefire on April 8 after 40 days of fighting triggered by U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28.
Iranian and U.S. delegations later held talks in Islamabad on April 11-12 but failed to reach an agreement. Since then, the two sides have exchanged several proposals through Pakistan, while sporadic clashes have continued in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
