China stands ready to work with Russia to fully implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, and further promote the mutual trust, cooperation and friendship of the two countries, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun at a regular press conference in Beijing on Thursday.
Guo made the statement in response to a question about Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to China from Tuesday to Wednesday.
"During Russian President Putin's visit to China, President Xi Jinping had in-depth, friendly and fruitful talks with him. The two heads of state reached important new common understandings on advancing the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era, signed a joint statement on further strengthening comprehensive strategic coordination and deepening good-neighborliness and friendly cooperation, and witnessed the signing of 20 cooperation documents in fields such as economy and trade, education, and sci-tech. Our two countries also issued a joint statement on advocating a multipolar world and a new type of international relations, and reached 20 cooperation documents in other fields," said the spokesman.
"President Xi said that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination, noting that over the past 30 years, the positioning of China-Russia relations has been continuously elevated, reaching the highest level in history as a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era and setting an example of a new type of major-country relations," said Guo.
"President Xi said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Russia relations have reached a new starting point, calling on both sides to follow the trend of the times featuring peace, development and win-win cooperation to achieve higher-quality development of bilateral relations. President Xi called for efforts to consolidate higher-quality political mutual trust and strengthen strategic support for each other, and stressed the need for China and Russia to empower higher-quality mutually beneficial cooperation and jointly promote their respective development and revitalization. He also stressed the need to promote higher-quality people-to-people exchanges and strengthen the foundation for lasting friendship between the two countries across generations, and called on China and Russia to pursue higher-quality international coordination and work together to reform and improve global governance," the spokesman continued.
