U.S. dollar ticks up

The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.3 percent to 99.2 at 15:00 (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1631 dollars from 1.1664 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound declined to 1.3458 dollars from 1.3461 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 159.76 Japanese yen, higher than 159.26 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.7864 Swiss francs from 0.7811 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3842 Canadian dollars from 1.3797 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 9.3059 Swedish kronor from 9.2338 Swedish kronor.

European stocks ended lower across the board on Monday.

The benchmark FTSE 100 Index in London fell 0.68 percent to close at 10,338.95 points. France's CAC 40 index dropped 0.45 percent to finish at 8,146.59 points. Germany's DAX index declined 0.40 percent to end the session at 25,003.04 points.
