China will take the upcoming visit of Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal as an opportunity to further advance its strategic partnership of cooperation with Nepal, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday.

At the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Khanal will visit China from June 14 to 17.

"China has long been Nepal’s friend and close neighbor. Since our diplomatic ties were established in 1955, the two countries have been committed to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and supporting each other in safeguarding independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. In October, 2019, President Xi Jinping made a historic state visit to Nepal, elevating our bilateral relations to the strategic partnership of cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity," Lin said.

"Nepal has concluded its elections steadily and as scheduled in March and successfully formed a new government. China congratulates that and supports Nepal in pursuing solidarity, stability, development and prosperity. China attaches great importance to China-Nepal relations, and will take the visit as an opportunity to work with Nepal’s new government to enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, pursue high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and make greater progress in China-Nepal strategic partnership of cooperation," he said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Friday a Pakistani-mediated memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States on ending the war "has never been closer."

In a post on social media platform X, Araghchi urged the media to refrain from speculation before the MoU's finalization.

"The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer. Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content," he said.

Araghchi added that "all details will be shared with the public in due course."

U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States had "just made a great settlement of the war with Iran," with an agreement expected to be signed "over the next few days."

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei told state-run IRIB TV on Thursday that while the MoU's text was largely finalized, Washington's "contradictory" positions had repeatedly disrupted the diplomatic process.

Baghaei noted that Iranian authorities were reviewing the MoU's text in detail, and would announce a conclusion officially.
