The parade unfolded along the iconic Reforma Avenue, with World Cup-themed floats and performers dressed as football legends captivating the audience. Traditional dances and folk performances added a rich showcase of Mexico's cultural heritage, underscoring its role as one of the tournament's three co-hosts.
For foreign tourists, this event was not only a football party but also a rare opportunity to experience Mexican culture.
"This is our first time in Mexico and we've really enjoyed it. Today's event brings together all of Mexico's traditions and allows all visitors to learn more about Mexican culture. We're very happy," said Francisco Gonzalez, a Colombian fan.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup officially began on June 11 with an opening ceremony held at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico. The expanded 2026 tournament is set to be the biggest ever World Cup, featuring a record number of 48 teams and seeing the competition hosted by three nations for the first time.
In the opening match in Mexico City on Thursday, Mexico beat nine-man South Africa 2-0. Preliminary statistics showed that the game generated over 1.2 billion Mexican pesos (around 69.9 million U.S. dollars) in economic activity across the city and surrounding areas on that day alone, with most of the spending going to restaurants, hotels, transport, and souvenir shops.
Mexico City will host its second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 17, staging a Group K contest between Uzbekistan and Colombia.
