A growing number of Taiwan residents can clearly recognize the threat posed by the Lai Ching-te administration to the cross-Strait stability and the well-being of the people on the island, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian said at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

Zhu made the comment in response to a media query about a Taiwan media outlet's latest polling results, which showed a rising disapproval rating for Lai's policies, and about local public opinion criticizing the Lai administration's lack of tangible political achievements and its constant attempts to stoke social division since coming to power.

According to a media outlet's public opinion poll, 47.6 percent of Taiwan residents expressed disapproval of Lai in June, up 2.7 percentage points from the previous month.

"For a long time, the Lai Ching-te administration has aggressively peddled fallacies for Taiwan secession and constantly engaged in separatist provocations. It has gone to great lengths to stoke anti-China sentiment while obstructing and undermining cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation. It has suppressed political dissent through persecution, fostering a climate of 'green terror.' For the sake of self-interest, it has recklessly bound the people of Taiwan to the war chariot of Taiwan secession, pushing the island toward the perilous brink of conflict. With no bottom line, the administration has fawned upon and capitulated to foreign powers, stubbornly clinging to its secession agenda by relying on external forces and military buildup. The people of Taiwan no longer buy into the Lai administration's political tricks. They increasingly recognize it as the primary source of instability across the Taiwan Strait and the greatest threat to the wellbeing and livelihood of the Taiwan people," Zhu said.

"Only by resolutely opposing Taiwan secession activities and external interference can peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait be effectively upheld, and the interests and wellbeing of compatriots in Taiwan as well as Taiwan's future development be effectively safeguarded," she said.
