China stands ready to work with the United States to create favorable conditions for expanding two-way agricultural trade, Commerce Ministry spokesman He Yadong said at a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday.
He made the remarks when asked about lowering or removing tariffs on U.S. farm products.
"Agricultural trade is an important part of China-U.S. economic cooperation. Following recent economic and trade consultations, the two sides have set guiding targets to expand two-way agricultural trade and agreed in principle to incorporate relevant agricultural products into the reciprocal tariff-reduction arrangements. Enterprises will follow market-oriented principles and independently conduct trade based on actual demand and market conditions. China is willing to work with the United States to create favorable conditions for two-way agricultural trade," the spokesman said.
The ministry said in late June that the two sides had agreed to establish a trade council under which the economic and trade teams of the two sides would discuss cooperation, including reciprocal tariff reductions.
