China and the European Union (EU) will hold a second meeting of the China-EU trade and investment consultation mechanism in China this autumn, Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman He Yadong said at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.
China's Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security and Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency Maros Sefcovic co-chaired the first meeting of the mechanism in Brussels on Monday.
"The China-EU trade and investment consultation mechanism is a newly established, regular exchange platform in the economic and trade field between the two sides. Both sides have agreed to hold one or two ministerial meetings each year. China has already invited European Commissioner [for Trade and Economic Security and Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency] Sefcovic to visit China this autumn and hold the second meeting of the mechanism," said He.
"During the first meeting, the two sides focused on three areas to promote an upward trade balance, not downward. First, in emerging fields, we will work to expand cooperation in areas like AI and green transition. Second, in potential areas, we will further tap the potential of cooperation in service trade. Third, in areas of concern, we will address each other's key issues through market access consultations," he said.
"Both sides have agreed on a new positioning for China-EU trade ties -- stable and balanced key trading partners -- which should improve the outlook for Chinese and European companies and inject greater certainty and positive energy into economic development in China, Europe, and the world at large," said the spokesman.
