The Chinese mainland is ready to share development opportunities from the modernization drive first with compatriots in Taiwan because people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one family, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian said at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.
Zhu's statement came in response to a media query about a recent heartfelt exchange between a mainland entrepreneur and a Taiwan biker, which struck a chord with many netizens across the Strait.
The exchange occurred when Zhang Xue, founder of the mainland high-performance motorcycle brand ZXMOTO, took a video call with the first owner of his bikes in Taiwan. When the Taiwan rider marveled at the advancement of the mainland's industrial technology, Zhang replied warmly by saying it is "our" advancement.
Zhu said the moment resonated with people on both sides of the Straits because of a simple truth.
"Because we are one family, Chinese people on both sides of the Strait feel proud of ZXMOTO and the many technological innovations emerging from the mainland. Because we are one family, people on the mainland are willing to share development opportunities from China's modernization drive first with our compatriots in Taiwan and work together toward national rejuvenation. We warmly welcome our Taiwan compatriots to visit the mainland, see its rapid development with their own eyes, and take an active part in cross-Strait exchanges, cooperation and integrated development. Together, we can create a brighter future for the Chinese nation," she added.
