Int’l observers congratulate China on Jingdezhen’s UNESCO listing

International guests attending the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee extended their congratulations to the Chinese delegation after the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) added China's Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Sites to the World Heritage List during the session in Busan, the Republic of Korea, on Saturday.

The inscription brought the total number of World Heritage sites in China to 61.

It marks the first time that China has nominated an industrial heritage site for World Heritage status, and it is also the first World Heritage site themed around porcelain.

Guests at the event highlighted the significance of the inscription, emphasizing its value not only for China but for the entire world.

"This is a great achievement not only for China but also for the global community. This is becoming a shared cultural heritage and we will protect it together," said Elman Abdullayev, Permanent Delegate of Azerbaijan to UNESCO.

"I'm very happy for this inscription of Jingdezhen on the World Heritage List. I have been in Jingdezhen twice. I have discovered this fantastic site, this place that is where you have the whole memory of this ancestral tradition of ceramics, and that is so important, not only for China, but for the whole world," said Jad Tabet, former representative of Lebanon to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

Situated in east China's Jiangxi Province, the Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Sites are a group of heritage sites representing the handicraft porcelain industry system that developed in Jingdezhen from the 10th to the 19th century.

According to the World Heritage Committee, the sites exhibit the innovative development of China's handicraft porcelain making technology, porcelain art and porcelain industry, and evidences the profound impact of China's handicraft porcelain industry on the development of the world's ceramic industry and the exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations.

A delegation of foreign diplomatic envoys visited south China's Hainan from Wednesday to Saturday, learning about the province's rapid development and exploring potential areas of cooperation.

The trip, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together over 30 ambassadors, chargés d'affaires, representatives of international organizations, and senior diplomats from countries including Kenya, Serbia, Spain and Vietnam.

In Sanya's Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City, the delegates gained insights into China's independent innovation in the seed industry and the country's agricultural technological transformation in response to climate change.

"We can invite a lot of the persons from this institute to come to Dominica to teach us some of the advanced technologies and the practices that we should employ in agriculture," said Martin Charles, Dominica's Ambassador to China.

The delegates also toured the innovative drug and medical device exhibition, as well as health and wellness institutions in the Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone.

Hailed as China's sole "medical special zone", the pilot zone is home to over 30 top-tier domestic and international medical institutions.

"The medical advances are the ones that have struck me most for the moment. There are so many fields where we can cooperate," said Javier Garcia-Larrache, Spain's charge d'affaires ad interim in China.

The delegates also visited villages to experience folk culture, including Li brocade from the Li ethnic group, traditional Chinese medicine sachets, and bamboo pole dances, immersing themselves in the province's rich and vibrant local cultures.
