Maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula serves the common interests of all relevant parties, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press briefing in Beijing on Monday.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday local time that he had instructed the Pentagon to substantially reduce joint military exercises with the Republic of Korea (ROK).

ROK Defense Ministry said Monday that the Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercise is proceeding as planned, adding that it would provide further updates if there are any developments. "China has noted the relevant reports. Maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and promoting the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue serve the common interests of all parties," Lin said in response to a relevant question.
