Every country has the right to choose its AI partners based on its own national conditions and development needs, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian at a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.
In response to a media query about U.S. pressure on signatories of a joint AI declaration, warning they will be excluded from a U.S.-led AI coalition if they also sign up for Beijing's competing framework, Lin emphasized China's opposition to any attempt to force countries to choose sides in artificial intelligence cooperation.
"China firmly opposes taking sides or forming camp confrontation on AI. We hope that all parties will abandon zero-sum mentality, persist in working together, respect every country's digital sovereignty, and join hands to build a fair and equitable global AI governance system, so that AI can become an important driving force to promote shared prosperity and uphold common security," Lin said.
