The Chinese Navy carried out a swift sea-air joint rescue operation to save an injured fisherman in the waters off east China on Friday.
At around 21:00, a fishing vessel operating in the waters of east China sent an emergency distress signal to a unit of the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, saying that a crew member suffered a severe arm injury in an accident, resulting in a severed forearm and heavy bleeding, and was in urgent need of medical attention.
Upon receiving the distress call, naval authorities immediately deployed the guided-missile destroyer Zhengzhou, the frigate Nantong, the supply ship Qiandaohu, and a ship-borne helicopter detachment -- all of which were conducting training exercises nearby -- to launch a coordinated sea-air rescue.
A small boat from the Qiandaohu successfully transferred the injured fisherman aboard the warship.
Due to limited medical facilities onboard, military hospital experts were immediately consulted via a video link to guide emergency treatment.
Once the fisherman gradually regained consciousness and his vital signs stabilized, the ship-borne helicopter airlifted him to a land-based hospital for further treatment.
The fisherman's condition has been effectively stabilized and is currently in stable condition.
