Political figures and experts from various countries hailed Chinese President Xi Jinping's remarks at the 18th BRICS Summit, saying they provided clear guidance for the future development of BRICS and injected fresh momentum into joint efforts to build a community with a shared future for humanity.
Attending 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India from Saturday to Sunday, Xi said during the summit's Session I on Saturday that the BRICS cooperation mechanism has become the world's most influential platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries. While on Sunday, during Session II, he delivered an important speech titled "Cementing the Foundation for BRICS Cooperation and Bolstering the Strength of the Global South."
"President Xi not only called on BRICS to be pioneers in driving innovation, safeguarding peace and stability, promoting mutual learning among civilizations, and reforming and improving global governance, but also introduced five concrete initiatives. These align closely with China's four global initiatives and left a deep impression on me," said Phinij Jarusombat, former deputy prime minister of Thailand.
"President Xi stressed that emerging technologies should light out the path to common prosperity. These five initiatives on inclusive open-source AI, trade and investment facilitation, digital industrial cooperation, smart manufacturing partnership and talent development for science and technology form a complete practical roadmap for BRICS innovation corporation," said Lim Wen Jye, senior researcher at the Institute of Strategic Analysis and Policy Research of Malaysia.
"President Xi Jinping's proposal for the BRICS countries to take on the four pioneering roles left a deep impression on me. In particular, he called for efforts to build a more just and equitable global governance system and enhance the voice of the Global South. I believe this shows how China's four global initiatives are being translated into a more concrete action through BRICS operation. For countries of the Global South, this provides a broader platform to participate in the global governance and promote common development," said Joseph Kimuli, a Ugandan international affairs expert.
Experts also highlighted Xi's emphasis on global security and the role of BRICS in promoting a fairer world, advancing positive development and ensuring that the benefits of new technologies are more widely shared.
"Xi Jinping's vision of global security is based on defending the UN Charter and the principle of non-interference by major powers in the affairs of other countries. China therefore promotes the vision of a community with a shared future for humanity, which is the true message of Xi Jinping and, more broadly, of China's policy for many years," said Rafael de Mora, a Spanish geopolitical analyst.
"President Xi is holding today in his speech about all these new ideas and new programs. So here's the motor in the world of all these positive developments. The BRICS will take the leading opportunity for the world, and I hope, and I'm sure as well, that BRICS will be the new motor for a more fair world where we can all profit from these new technologies," said Stefan Loubichi, a German expert in artificial intelligence.
BRICS was initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India and China, with South Africa joining later. The bloc has since grown to 11 member countries and 10 partner countries, becoming an important force in advancing a multipolar world and greater democracy in international relations.
