Nanchang, capital of east China's Jiangxi Province, staged a large-scale drone show Saturday night to launch a monthly performance program aimed at boosting consumption and tourism.
The debut unfolded in ten themed sections tracing the city's 3,000-year history, with drones sketching vivid images across the night sky. The performance ended with a striking finale as the city flower, a blooming Chinese rose, lit up the sky in dazzling formation.
"Drones projected Nanchang's history into the sky and there is good integration of technology and culture. We saw many patterns with local characteristics and as a Nanchang local, I'm filled with great pride," said Wei Fei, one of the spectators.
The show drew tens of thousands of spectators, driving foot traffic to nearby businesses and pushing hotels to report a surge in bookings and inquiry calls.
"Occupancy rate rose by 30.3 percent compared with ordinary weekends and river-view rooms were nearly fully booked. The front desk received significantly more calls for inquiries and reservations," said Zhuo Hua, a hotel supervisor.
City officials said the monthly shows will be developed into a tourism brand, combining heritage storytelling with modern entertainment to boost economy and visitor experience.

A meeting between Iran and Gulf states scheduled to take place in the Omani city of Salalah on Monday has been postponed, according to a social media post by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi on Sunday.
"In the interests of consensus the regional meeting set for tomorrow in Salalah has been postponed," Al Busaidi said on X.
"We remain committed to fostering dialogue that supports stability and lasting cooperation in our region," he added.
Confirming the meeting's deferral in an interview with Iran's official news agency IRNA, Mohammad Ali Bak, director general of the Persian Gulf at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said it was postponed to another date at some regional countries' requests and based on a joint decision by Iran and Oman.
The official stressed that Iran is in close consultations with Oman to ensure the necessary arrangements and coordination regarding the appropriate time for holding the meeting.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei announced on Friday that Gulf littoral states' foreign ministers were scheduled to meet in Oman on Monday to exchange views on regional issues, including the Iran-Oman talks on designating safe routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to Al Jazeera on Saturday, Baghaei said the gathering would "hopefully" be attended by foreign ministers from Gulf states as well as Iran and Iraq.
