Cross-border traffic through Hengqin Port in Zhuhai, southern China’s Guangdong Province bordering Macao, has seen robust growth this year, with vehicle crossings via the Guangdong-Macao joint one-stop lane exceeding 2 million as of Saturday, according to the latest customs data.
The figure, recorded at 17:45 on Saturday, represents a 42.4 percent jump compared to the same period last year.
Macao-registered single-plate vehicles were a major driver of the increase, accounting for 1.32 million of the total crossings — up 42.3 percent from a year ago.
The continued rise in Macao vehicle traffic highlights the growing integration between Guangdong and the Macao Special Administrative Region, as the joint one-stop clearance model streamlines border procedures and encourages more frequent cross-border travel.
Located at the southern tip of Zhuhai and separated from Macao by a narrow stretch of water, Hengqin has become a core center for personnel exchanges, economic and trade cooperation, and livelihood integration between Guangdong and Macao, as well as a vital gateway for the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone.
