The moon reached its fullness and was at its closest to Earth on Wednesday night, depicting a picturesque scene of the "lowest full moon," a rare astronomical phenomenon that occurs nearly every two decades.
In Beijing, the reddish-hued moon seemingly hovered above the Badaling Great Wall, while at the Beihai Park, it provided a stunning backdrop to the White Pagoda as it slowly ascended.
The rare breathtaking views were captured by eagerly waiting photography enthusiasts in southwest China's Yunnan Province, just the same as they were in Heilongjiang and Shandong provinces in northeastern and eastern part of the country, when the low-hanging moon illuminated the cityscapes like a bright beacon.
This "lowest full moon" occurs when the moon reaches its full phase while positioned near the lowest declination of the ecliptic.
With the moon nearing horizon and moonlight passing through a thicker layer of Earth atmosphere, the shorter wavelengths of its light are scattered and longer wavelengths of light, like red, are able to reach people's eyes. As a result, the moon takes on a subtle reddish hue.

Several areas of Feni District in southern Bangladesh have been flooded for days due to continued heavy rains, prompting emergency response.
Local authorities in the district commenced rescue operations on Thursday morning with assistance from civil groups.
Residents in Feni have endured heavy losses over the past few days.
"My pond fish, cows, goats, chickens, household items, clothes were all washed away in the flood water. We couldn't save anything. We couldn't save anything, we somehow swam here with our children and took shelter. We came here with only one cloth," said Sharmin, a local resident.
It is another devastating flood hit Bangladesh, coming after two major floods last year.
"There had been two floods in the last year. We are in great trouble with people, livestock, and property in these floods. Will people save their young children or their property? People have saved some assets as much as they can, the rest of the things have been swept away by the flood. Some houses are submerged up to their necks in water, while others are submerged up to their chests in water. We will not be able to go home for another week," said Abdur Rahim, another resident.
