Foreign tourists in Beijing have expressed optimism regarding the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump, hoping their high-level talks will bring a positive impact on people around the globe.

Trump on Friday wrapped up a three-day state visit to China at the invitation of Xi, after the two leaders held talks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday.

Before his departure from Beijing, Trump said he looks forward to hosting President Xi in Washington, D.C. He said his state visit has captured the world's attention and described it as very successful and unforgettable.

Tourists visiting the Chinese capital from different countries were optimistic about the historical high-level meeting, hoping that it will send out positive signals to the turbulent world of today.

"[I hope the two leaders will] come to a conclusion, and make something better than what they got going on at the moment," said Dieter Janzen, a German tourist.

"I hope this meeting will help to calm down the tone everywhere in the world [because] uncertainties are not good. It's a complicated time, but all the basics are there to start to work again together and not against each other," said Matteo Spreafico, a tourist from Italy.

"In terms of global trade and just the global position, it will be very good if they can kind of put some differences aside and get to a point where it's just a little bit clearer in terms of future planning and hopefully a bit more trust in general [in] kind of East-West relations," said a British visitor named Andrew.

China has been welcoming an influx of international visitors in recent times since expanding its visa-free policies.

The country recorded more than 30 million visa-free entries in 2025, up nearly 50 percent from the previous year thanks largely to the expansion of a unilateral visa-free scheme which now covers 50 countries, as well as a 240-hour visa-free transit policy which allows visitors to stop over en route to a third destination.
