伯納托（Augusto Dalmaz Bonato）11月30日晚間在家裝飾聖誕樹，完成布置後想開啟裝飾燈具，欣賞自己的作品，但瞬間觸電倒地。

他的家人驚見伯納托躺在聖誕樹旁且意識不清，擔任護理員的姊姊達爾瑪茲（Carolina Dalmaz），即時嘗試對伯納托實施呼吸急救，男童的父母則通報救助，救護人員隨後將男童送醫治療，但因傷勢嚴重不治身亡。

達爾瑪茲透露，她曾救過很多患者，原以為這次也能救活弟弟，沒想到他未能脫險。男童叔叔、希伯特（Hebert Bonato）嘆說，「伯納托受到強烈電擊，他是個很虔誠的孩子，還在當地教堂擔任祭壇侍童，很喜歡向大家傳遞聖誕信息。」
