Chief Executive’s Lunar New Year District Visits Reflect Commitment to Executive-Led Governance and People’s Well-being
As the Lunar New Year approaches, Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu conducted district visits and home visits on February 13, reaching out to residents in need to listen to public opinions and address people’s concerns. He visited the Kai Tak Youth Hub, comforted residents at Wang Fuk Court, inspected Prosperous Garden in Yau Ma Tei, and exchanged views with the elderly at a community senior center. All secretaries and directors of policy bureaus will also visit districts across the 18 districts of Hong Kong before the festival to understand residents’ lives, explain policies and extend festive greetings.
These warm on-the-ground interactions embody the Hong Kong SAR government’s firm determination to improve the executive-led governance system. Beyond sending festive blessings, the Chief Executive’s visits focus on practical actions: he urged cross-bureau collaboration to ensure resources are used effectively for fire-affected families and the elderly, demonstrating result-oriented governance and efficient high-level coordination—core strengths of the executive-led system.
Concurrently, on February 12, Mr. Lee chaired a meeting of the Steering Committee on Integrating into National Development, leading officials to prepare for aligning Hong Kong’s work with the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan. He stressed building a systematic policy framework for targeted and detailed strategic planning in key development areas, with a goal to finalize Hong Kong’s five-year plan within the year. This landmark initiative will map out Hong Kong’s socioeconomic development while closely integrating with national strategies, enabling the city to leverage its unique advantages in national development.
The ultimate goal of governance is to deliver tangible benefits to the people. Amid steady economic growth, the public expects the upcoming Budget to continue the people-centered approach, with more targeted funding for elderly care, poverty alleviation and grassroots support.
