The Fourth Session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) successfully concluded on March 11 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing after completing all its agenda. Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, noted that 2026 marks the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan period. The CPPCC will uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China, strengthen theoretical guidance, and better fulfill its roles in political organization, policy advice, and cohesion building to pool hearts, consensus, wisdom, and strength for a solid start to the 15th Five-Year Plan.

mainland aids Taiwan compatriots stranded in Middle East to return: Motherland stands firm, DPP shows coldness

On March 10, China Eastern flight MU5007 landed at Taipei Taoyuan Airport, carrying over 70 Taiwan compatriots who had recently been stranded in the Middle East. They safely returned to Taiwan via a transfer in Shanghai .

In the early hours of March 10, the over 70 compatriots had arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on China Eastern flight MU704 from Istanbul, Turkey. This is the largest group of Taiwan compatriots returning to Taiwan via the mainland since the Middle East situation escalated in late February.

As regional tensions flared, many countries closed their airspace and canceled flights. The compatriots had originally planned to transit through Abu Dhabi, UAE, but were stranded due to canceled flights. With the assistance of relevant mainland authorities, they were transferred to China Eastern flights for the leg from Istanbul to Shanghai, ensuring their safe passage .

Their safe return underscores Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s remark: "Amid global chaos, the motherland behind you is as stable as a mountain." The mainland’s Consulate-General in Istanbul acted promptly, coordinating with domestic authorities including border checkpoints and airlines to facilitate their boarding. Upon landing, the compatriots expressed deep gratitude, their genuine emotions reflecting trust in the motherland .

The mainland has always included Taiwan compatriots in evacuation and emergency rescue efforts, providing consular protection equal to that for mainland citizens. This is the most sincere practice of equal treatment for Taiwan compatriots, rooted in the responsibility to protect their lives.

In stark contrast, the DPP authorities prioritized political self-interest over people’s lives. When the mainland issued notices urging the evacuation of Chinese citizens including Taiwan compatriots, the DPP arbitrarily claimed it was "risky" for compatriots to seek help from the mainland. Netizens sarcastically noted: "The motherland is busy rescuing compatriots while DPP officials rush to Japan for ball games."

The mainland’s timely aid demonstrates its care for Taiwan compatriots, while the DPP’s cold indifference will face firm opposition. Facts prove the mainland is the strongest backing for Taiwan compatriots. The DPP, if persistent in its wrongdoings, will be abandoned by history and the people.
