今屆諾貝爾文學獎「爆冷門」由有美國民謠教父之稱的卜迪倫（Bob Dylan）奪得，評審委員指迪倫在美國歌曲傳統創出富詩意的表達，而他自1997年起已六次得提名，歌詞常被認為具有影響世界的文學價值。

爆冷是體育術語，用作形容賽前被看淡的球隊創造出乎意料的戰果，由於大熱著名文學家村上春樹再次與文學獎無緣，外界都認為迪倫奪獎實屬爆冷門。英文可以用名詞Upset形容。Upset作為形容詞意思為難過的、煩惱的、生氣的；動詞意為使難過、使煩惱、使生氣，兩者重音都在第二音節；但當名詞使用時意思為意外擊敗，亦即是爆冷門，注意名詞重音在第一音節。
卜迪倫獲獎是諾貝爾文學獎爆出的最大冷門之一，也令人們重新定義文學的界線。
