Did you watch the 1983 Perrier cartoon in the desert ad. which run on TV?
The ad. run like this. A dehydrated man is looking for water in the desert. He was creeping in the no-man land. Suddenly he was a bar which is properly a hallucination. He asked the bartender: "Perrier." The bartender replied: "No Perrier." The man continue to creep without asking for water. Do not die for water. Insist on Perrier. "Don't settle for less" is the hidden agenda.
Pro-Democratics can have the same attitude toward themselves. But we are thirsty for the universal suffrage. Water can do. We don't need Perrier. Why make the simple step moving forward a complicated one. We want the law to pass.
Beijing Government has offered a reform to let everyone in Hong Kong to pick the CE of one's own choice. Undeniable the move is a qumtumn leap in political reform. That's the universal suffrage ee have been yearning for many generations.
Meanwhile, the Pro-Democratic camp has not been satisfied. They asked for more. They demanded the public the right to the nomination and the right to be nominated.
Those TWO rights plus the aforesaid the election rights. There are three rights. If nothing left out, I might make their wishes clear. Am I right? Left, Right, Left, Right… Sound like soliders' matching on my head. That's confusing. We souldn't make it harder than it is.
What the Pro-Democratic camp asked for is that the general public be judges of all the CE applicants. How practical is that. How can the public handle say tens of applicants. I cannot image how messy a CE debate can be, if tens of people talk at the same time. That was exactly the Pro-Democratic camp called "Civil Nomination".
Currently the CE candidates are scanned by an election committee of 1,200 people. Then the same 1,200-group elect the Hong Kong CE. In the past, the Miss Hong Kong Pageant followed followed roughly the same game rules. That are both thr interview and the finals' picks are done by a few elites. In 2014, a penal of professional judges held interviews. The judges still scanned the applicants and fixed the qulified candidates. In this year, every TV watcher have been gracefully picked Grace Chan as the winner on a one-man one-vote fashion fashion. She was supported with about 170,000 popular votes. But in fact popular votes counted only half ofpopular the final socres. The another half was still graded still by the judges. Anyway, we happily saw the most popular candidate won. Together we reach a consent. Grace is popular.
Madam Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the CS, has announed the updated proposal for CE reform. At maxmium, there can be 10 candidates. The nomination committee will help do the "interviews". The proposal banned a no-contest race. In other words, if the proposal passed, we are guaranteed to have a chance to exercise our CE ballot. We shall urge our Pro-Democracy counselors to acknowledge the opinion poll. The poll indicated that more half of the respondances accepted the "take-it-first" first suggestion. CS has promised that we can have a political reform betterment later. Pro-Democratic camp claimed that take it means stay in it forever. Do the democratic fighters switched jobs to fortune tellers? But it seems they prevent the universal surffage from happenning. It's not just done by now. They could stop it forever. What's next? Would they pause the earth?
Takes it first. We want our CE election right. We may gain more interview rights later on. To get something is always better than nothing.
