Opener Mayank Agarwal extended his fifth test century total to 146 and was still at the crease as India moved to 285-6 at lunch on the second day of the second cricket test against New Zealand on Saturday.

Starting overnight at 221-4, India lost Wriddiman Saha early in the day. Ajaz Patel trapped him lbw in the second over of the morning, out for 27 after adding 84 runs for the fifth wicket with Agarwal.

He has faced 306 deliveries in all, with 16 fours and four sixes. There was more turn off the surface at Wankhede Stadium and Agarwal used his footwork to counter the spin.

Axar Patel (32) was the other not-out batsman at the lunch break, putting on 61 runs for the sixth wicket with Agarwal, who had resumed Saturday on 120 .

Ajaz Patel bowled Ravichandran Ashwin off the first ball for a duck. He became the first New Zealand spinner to take five wickets in the first innings of a test in India. Previously, Jeetan Patel had the best figures of 4-100 in 2012.

India had slid to 224-6 but once again Agarwal dug his team out of trouble.
