All-out rescue and relief efforts are in full swing as heavy rainfall battered several places across China in recent days.
In Xiangtan County of central China's Hunan Province, repair work on breached dikes is underway.
Meanwhile, rescuers have also expanded road surfaces to provide better operational conditions for heavy machinery.
Currently, power has been restored in several villages of Xiangtan County, with local residents being evacuated to safety.
Hunan's Zixing City was also lashed by torrential rain. As of 15:00 Tuesday, local authorities had dispatched 153 helicopters, transferred 45 trapped people, and sent out 56.2 tons of daily necessities, including food and medicine.
The incessant rainstorms have caused 28 rivers in northeast China's Jilin Province to exceed warning levels. Linjiang City in the province faced severe waterlogging in low-lying areas. To cope with the situation, the local government dispatched machinery to conduct all-day drainage.
For now, floods on main roads in the downtown area have receded.
Since Monday, heavy rainfall has drenched many places in north China's Shanxi Province, with local rescue teams rushing to affected areas to drain flooded fields and provide relief.
As heavy rains have led to landslides and blocked roads in the region, local traffic police have implemented traffic control measures on affected sections.
By the end of Tuesday noon, over 90,000 people had been evacuated to safe places across the province.
China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said Monday it had allocated 500 million yuan (over 70 million U.S. dollars) to support disaster relief efforts in five provinces, namely Hunan, Fujian, Henan, Sichuan and Shaanxi, which are affected by heavy rain, flooding and typhoon.
The money will be distributed to key projects, including restoration of damaged water conservancy and flood control infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and other public facilities, to help people return to normal life and work earliest possible, the NDRC said.
China's Ministry of Finance said on Tuesday that another 238 million yuan (about 33.35 million U.S. dollars) of funds had been allocated to assist in disaster relief and agricultural production restoration in five flood-stricken regions.
The money will be used to manage flood-damaged crops, restore damaged agricultural facilities, and support flood control and drainage of waterlogged fields, amid efforts to mitigate the impacts of floods on agricultural production in Henan, Hunan, Chongqing, Sichuan and Shaanxi, the ministry said.
